Joker Guest Mix

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , on October 22, 2009 by REAL BAD

Before today I hadn’t heard of N3K4.com, but it’s looks pretty good and seems to have posted some good stuff in its time. In particular they’ve put up a mix that Joker did for 1xtra a couple of weeks back. It’s filled with saccharine, purple-goodness and a couple of unreleased dubs from Joker and Silkie. Plus it ends with that great remix of SMD’s ‘Cruel Intentions’, which you can get here

PURRRRRRRP

Speaking of new sites, everyone should head over to RuckusRuckusRuckus and check out my man Joe. There’s a snippet of a mix that he did up-in-the-VIP at the Warp20 event in Sheffield. Pity he didn’t record the bit where he played a bunch of bassline tracks while some crazy drunk chick lost her shit. Anyway, it’s still an excellent mix, and you’ll get similar monthly updates for your education. So subscribe!

Back on it…

I haven’t posted for ages. I’ve been busy doing stuff like this. But, it’s all back on now. I could go back over all the stuff I missed but I’ve lost the charger for my computer so I haven’t got long.

The Fader / NME have posted up a remix of Simian Mobile Disco’s track ‘Cruel Intentions Ft. Beth Ditto’ by none other than the king of the Bristol dubstep scene, Joker. Like everything that he lends his hand to these days, the remix is flashy, hard hitting and guaranteed to get your head nodding. Grab it over at The Fader

Glasgow’s best club night, Numbers, seems to be making more moves towards becoming a world-dominating record label. The latest signing comes in the form of Taz Buckfaster, a 26 year old Glasgow native who seems to be following in Joker’s footsteps. Tracks of his have been knocking around on various Wireblock/Numbers mixes for a while now, but there’s a great interview over at Sonic Router that finally puts a face to the music. As if that’s not enough, he’s provided a mix crammed with original dubs. Interview HERE and mix HERE

Finally, shout out to Joe Ruckus for everything this weekend. READ HIS BLOG.

Bleep.com Previews Hyperdub “5”

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 5, 2009 by REAL BAD
hypheader450Bleep.com have announced the full vinyl tracklisting for Hyperdub’s fifth anniversary compilation “5”, complete with audio clips of all the tracks
Five vinyl EPs will be released, one a week, in the run up to the release of a double CD compilation. Importantly, the double CD will feature all the tracks present on the vinyl EPs… and more! Which is good, cause I can’t see any Burial on those vinyls.
And who are Black Chow? The track is called “Purple Smoke” which hints at Joker and his gang, but there are plenty of other top-secret Hyperdub collabs rumoured (Burial+FlyLo, FlyLo+Joker) that could fit the bill…

Nmbrs: 29 Minutes of Guido

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on June 29, 2009 by REAL BAD

Nmbrs podcast #19 is a 29 minute mix by Bristol’s Guido. Rolling with Joker and Gemmy and producing nothing but the freshest “p-funk” (or whatever else The Guardian are calling it) sound, Guido is breaking age old conventions of dubstep and trying to turn it from the established sausage fest into something a little… sexier.

Dorian Concept + FlyLo jam at Brainfeeder London

Posted in Live, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 23, 2009 by REAL BAD

Brainfeeder London was easily the best live event I’ve been to this year. You might have seen me on the door collecting tickets and stamping hands but I got inside to see Gaslamp Killer, Flying Lotus, Dorian Concept and Joker. Pity I missed Samiyam, cause I heard that he killed it. For me, Dorian was the highlight of the night. I’m not sure if I imagined it or not but I think the kid started rocking out a little too hard and tried (and failed) to play his keyboard with his face. Anyway, here’s a video of him jamming with Fly Lo and some guy on the guitar (who was that?)

Jackmaster mix for The Wire

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 21, 2009 by REAL BAD

Jackmaster has posted a mix that he made for The Wire magazine over at his label’s website, Wireblock.com.

“I just dun did a new DJ mix for peoples over at The Wire magazine. It features a bunch of Wireblock exclusives to be released later this year and a wealth of other face melters. Some of it is out of key and the levels are a bit fucked but at least it’s real.”

Great to hear forthcoming Wireblock tracks in the mix alongside heavy-hitters from Joker, Dorian Concept, Débruit and Guido.

Joker – Solid State

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , on May 14, 2009 by REAL BAD

solid state

Joker’s posted a new track on Dubstepforum.com called ‘Solid State’. Just as we’ve come to expect from him, it’s dark, twitchy and there’s no denying there’s a hook. Which is exactly why it’s worth downloading.
