Love Cry – Joy Orbison Remix

Remix of Fourtet’s forthcoming single ‘Love Cry’ by the most hyped producer of 2009, Joy Orbison.

Killer.

Dark Sky – Ghost Notes

Posted in Live, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on November 3, 2009 by REAL BAD

Exclusive, debut track from Dark Sky. These newcomers hail from south-London but are no strangers to the scene, having been around for a long time as DJs The Boog-a-Loo Crew. Adding a third member to their team and focusing their efforts on deeper, darker material has lead to this first track ‘Ghost Notes’, which will eventually be part of a 4-track EP to be released on freshman label Pictures. You can catch them at this month’s Trouble Vision down at Corsica Studios alongside Zinc, Geeneus, El-B, Joy Orbison and Sbtrkt to name a few!

Joker Guest Mix

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , on October 22, 2009 by REAL BAD

Before today I hadn’t heard of N3K4.com, but it’s looks pretty good and seems to have posted some good stuff in its time. In particular they’ve put up a mix that Joker did for 1xtra a couple of weeks back. It’s filled with saccharine, purple-goodness and a couple of unreleased dubs from Joker and Silkie. Plus it ends with that great remix of SMD’s ‘Cruel Intentions’, which you can get here

PURRRRRRRP

Speaking of new sites, everyone should head over to RuckusRuckusRuckus and check out my man Joe. There’s a snippet of a mix that he did up-in-the-VIP at the Warp20 event in Sheffield. Pity he didn’t record the bit where he played a bunch of bassline tracks while some crazy drunk chick lost her shit. Anyway, it’s still an excellent mix, and you’ll get similar monthly updates for your education. So subscribe!

New Rustie Tracks

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , on October 22, 2009 by REAL BAD

My favourite DJ of the moment? Probably. One of my most anticipated album of 2010? Definately. Head over to Rustie’s MySpace to check out new tracks ‘Neko’ and ‘Relay’, which FACT reckon will be making their way onto his new album.

Wireblock + Dress 2 Sweat + Stuff = NUMBERS

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , on October 15, 2009 by REAL BAD

It’s great to be able to post about actual music news once in a while, as opposed to just posting links to mixes that I think are good.

I’ll let the guys over at Numbers explain it through their brilliant website, but be sure this is a great move for these guys. in 2010 Numbers will be holding it down stronger than they ever have before. Exciting times.

OH

and there’s a mix to go along with it too, a sort of Dress 2 Sweat retrospective. Their final release from L-Vis and Bok-Bok is a killer too.

Be sure to catch the (re)launch parties in Glasgow and London. Especially the one in London. Dorian Concept is not to be missed.

5 Mixes: Starkey / dÉbruit / Alex B / Harmonic 313 / Greena

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 12, 2009 by REAL BAD

1: Starkey mix for FACT

I wasn’t a fan of Starkey’s ‘Gutter Music’ album, although I hear his sophmore offering is a lot better. I wasn’t too sure about listening to this mix for FACT but I was happily surprised. Lots of heavy hitting tracks here and a really lush remix of Bon Iver to round things off.

STARKEY @ FACT

2. dÉbruit mix for FACT

I reckon I’ll just stop doing this blog and just post a link to the new FACT mix each week. French synth-funkster dÉbruit drops a dirty, soulful set that slides gracefully from Kurtis Blow through to Dorian Concept.

3. Alex B mix for Brainfeeder

Kings of left-field instrumental hip-hop (can’t we just call it wonky?) Brainfeeder post up their latest podcast mixed by Alex B. I have no idea who he is, but he seems to have been doing alright for himself without any notice from me. Loads of great tracks from himself alongside Viktor Vaughn, AFTA-1 and Dibia$e.

Alex B @ Brainfeeder

4. Harmonic 313 on Viral Radio

It’s not really a mix, but Mark Ptichard (AKA Harmonic 313) drops by Viral Radio to play some new tracks from himself and Africa Hi-Tech (Harmonic313 + Steve Spacek) and to talk a little about his music.

5: Greena mix for Ballers 5ocial Club

I’ve done almost none of the work that I was meant to do today so… Here’s a link to Greena’s mix for Glasgow’s ‘Ballers 5ocial Club’ over at Sonic Router. Lots of good stuff in here from Joy Orbison, L-Vis 1990, Martin Kemp etc.

Kowton / Oops! / The XX / James Blake

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 5, 2009 by REAL BAD

Kicking things off is another interview/mix over on Blackdown’s blog from Bristol’s Kowton. He gives us a really strong mix including tracks from Guido, Pearson Sound and STL, and a really great (and lengthy) interview. Watch out for more from Kowton over the coming months – and here’s hoping that I can find somewhere to get hold of his track ‘Stasis’. KOWTON

Ahead of the release of Hudson Mohawke’s debut album ‘Butter‘, Wireblock are offering up two free tracks from Hudson’s first release ‘Oops!’. The title track from this release has reached anthemic proportions, and if you don’t have it yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? For those of you that like your music a bit more tangible, Rubadub have a limited re-press of the vinyl in stock now.

Everybody’s new favourite band The XX are taking the internet by storm and selling out live venues everywhere they go. And rightly so – their melancholic surfer rock has created one of my favourite albums of 2009. But recently I’ve started hearing a slightly different side to them which is very exciting. Starting with Jamie’s (MPC/drums/production) mix for FACT, the band’s interest in dubstep, garage and-all-that became apparent. On the B-side of their forthcoming single is a cover of Kyla’s UK Funky smash ‘Do You Mind’ and last week a remix by The XX of Florence & The Machine’s cover of ‘You’ve Got The Love’ (confusing) surfaced. The track kicks off with lush harps and vocals by The XX but by the 2 minute mark it’s morphed into a hazy, sentimental UKF re-work of the Florence version. MAGICAL STUFF

And as a quick sign-off, head on over to The Quietus to read an interview by Oli Marlow (of Sonic Router) with one of my favourite artists of 2009, James Blake. Oh, and be sure to get your hands on his debut single ‘Air & Lack Thereof’ because its nothing short of astounding

inabit.

Burial – Fostercare

Posted in Music with tags , , , on September 29, 2009 by REAL BAD

I’m not sure how legal this is, or how long it’ll be around before being taken down, but as long as someone else has put it on YouTube here is the Burial track off the new Hyperdub anniversary compilation “5”. I heard this at the listening party and have had the CD for a week or so now and I can’t stop listening to it. It seems straighter and more sparse than his other material – but it’s no less evocative.

Make sure to buy the Hyperdub “5” CD from Bleep.com to get your hands on this track.

EDIT – VIDEO IS DEAD.
