Dark Sky – Ghost Notes

Posted in Live, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on November 3, 2009 by REAL BAD

Exclusive, debut track fromĀ Dark Sky. These newcomers hail from south-London but are no strangers to the scene, having been around for a long time as DJs The Boog-a-Loo Crew. Adding a third member to their team and focusing their efforts on deeper, darker material has lead to this first track ‘Ghost Notes’, which will eventually be part of a 4-track EP to be released on freshman label Pictures. You can catch them at this month’s Trouble Vision down at Corsica Studios alongside Zinc, Geeneus, El-B, Joy Orbison and Sbtrkt to name a few!

Dorian Concept + FlyLo jam at Brainfeeder London

Posted in Live, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 23, 2009 by REAL BAD

Brainfeeder London was easily the best live event I’ve been to this year. You might have seen me on the door collecting tickets and stamping hands but I got inside to see Gaslamp Killer, Flying Lotus, Dorian Concept and Joker. Pity I missed Samiyam, cause I heard that he killed it. For me, Dorian was the highlight of the night. I’m not sure if I imagined it or not but I think the kid started rocking out a little too hard and tried (and failed) to play his keyboard with his face. Anyway, here’s a video of him jamming with Fly Lo and some guy on the guitar (who was that?)

Madlib – The Red (Live At Fabric)

Posted in Live, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 22, 2009 by REAL BAD

Here’s a clip of Madlib performing ‘The Red’ at Fabric last Tuesday. The crowd were pretty terrible at getting the timing right when they were shouting ‘turn it up’. At one point that night Madlib stormed off stage – joke or not, he sent some shitty hype man up to try and get us all into it a bit more. I think the problem was Madlib spent too much time playing 3 minute vocal samples and stopping tracks after 10 seconds than actually playing to the crowd. J Rocc killed it in his set before Mad’s and when the two of them teamed up they got it started again with a predictable (but fantastic) Dilla-fest. It was a good night! Thanks to Benji B and the Deviation crew.

Bank Holiday w/ Fact

Posted in Live, Music with tags , , , , , , , , on April 28, 2009 by REAL BAD

As if Them 4’s night at the Rhythm Factory wasn’t enough for the coming bank holiday, I just found out about Fact Magazine’s night at Cargo on Saturday May 2nd. The line up is HUUUUGE – Wookie, Geeneus, Various Production, Alexander Nut and Brackles. I could go on and on about how good all of them are in their own right, but if anything is going to convince you to go it’s that the night is FREE. This night’s going to be a roadblock so better get down there early.

Why not check out Alexander Nut’s mix that he just did for Fact to keep you warm until Saturday Night.

Dam-Funk In The Lab

Posted in Live, Music with tags , , , on April 17, 2009 by REAL BAD

Dam-Funk posted this video early this morning/late last night. Internet-stripper style camera footage of him playing in his studio in Leimert Park, LA. The sound levels are a bit messed up but its great to see him playing… and singing. Keep doing it Dam, I can’t get enough.
