Back on it…

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on September 23, 2009 by REAL BAD

I haven’t posted for ages. I’ve been busy doing stuff like this.┬áBut, it’s all back on now. I could go back over all the stuff I missed but I’ve lost the charger for my computer so I haven’t got long.

The Fader / NME have posted up a remix of Simian Mobile Disco’s track ‘Cruel Intentions Ft. Beth Ditto’ by none other than the king of the Bristol dubstep scene, Joker. Like everything that he lends his hand to these days, the remix is flashy, hard hitting and guaranteed to get your head nodding. Grab it over at The Fader

Glasgow’s best club night, Numbers, seems to be making more moves towards becoming a world-dominating record label. The latest signing comes in the form of Taz Buckfaster, a 26 year old Glasgow native who seems to be following in Joker’s footsteps. Tracks of his have been knocking around on various Wireblock/Numbers mixes for a while now, but there’s a great interview over at Sonic Router that finally puts a face to the music. As if that’s not enough, he’s provided a mix crammed with original dubs. Interview HERE and mix HERE

Finally, shout out to Joe Ruckus for everything this weekend. READ HIS BLOG.

Nmbrs: 29 Minutes of Guido

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on June 29, 2009 by REAL BAD

Nmbrs podcast #19 is a 29 minute mix by Bristol’s Guido. Rolling with Joker and Gemmy and producing nothing but the freshest “p-funk” (or whatever else The Guardian are calling it) sound, Guido is breaking age old conventions of dubstep and trying to turn it from the established sausage fest into something a little… sexier.

Joker – Solid State

solid state

Joker’s posted a new track on called ‘Solid State’. Just as we’ve come to expect from him, it’s dark, twitchy and there’s no denying there’s a hook. Which is exactly why it’s worth downloading.

It’s been too long since I last posted.

I’ll make up for it now.

First of all, over the past few days I’ve heard two tracks which I can’t get enough of, but annoyingly can’t listen to outside of iPlayer and MySpace.

Another disciple of the ‘purple sound’ pouring out of Bristol, Silkie makes deep, soulful dubstep. ‘The Horizon’ is beautiful and sounds like something from a futuristic Streets Of Rage soundtrack. This tune will be on his new album ‘City Limits Vol 1’ coming in June on Mala’s Deep Medi label. Last week’s Mary Anne Hobbs show is the only place I can find it at the moment, and that’s only got a couple of days left on it before it expires. The show is a great one, but do yourself a favour and fast forward to the 16min mark. (Then again, Kito’s ‘LFO’ is the first track played and it’s also a winner)

*edit* Mary Anne’s new show has replaced it now…

Floating Points, property of Eglo and Planet Mu, played a couple of sets with his live band this past weekend in London. Unfortunately I didn’t make it to either. It’s more unfortunate that I can’t get his track ‘K&G Beat’ out of my head since hearing it at work the other day. It’ll be released on Planet Mu July 6th (so far away!), but until then I’ll just have to keep his MySpace page open.

Video – Ramadanman – Humber

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 7, 2009 by REAL BAD

Apple Pips Recordings out of Bristol present the video for Ramadanman’s “Humber”.

I love this track. It’s house, it’s dubstep, it’s detroit-techno and most importantly it’s here just in time for the summer. The video is pretty nice too, made by the excellently-named Vector Meldrew.
