Brackles Mix For XLR8R

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , on August 3, 2009 by REAL BAD

Brackles, of Blunted Robots and Apple Pips, is fast becoming one of my favourite DJs around today. He mixes dubstep, garage and techno with more intelligence than you’ll hear in most mixes. Having said that, I’m not such a fan of the first track on this mix but after that it’s killer. Featuring unreleased tracks from Brackles, his brother Martin Kemp, Joy Orbison and Untold. I’d never heard that Jamie Lidell remix by Rustie before either… it’s massive.

01 One Tribe feat Gem & MC Nuts “What Have You Done” (Red Rose Recordings)
02 Greena “Tenzado” (Applepips)
03 Shortstuff “See Ya” (unreleased)
04 Martin Kemp “Aztec” (unreleased)
05 Brackles & Shortstuff “Pipey D” (unreleased)
06 Aardvarck “Nosestep” (RH)
07 Joy Orbison “GR Etiquette” (unreleased)
08 Alley Cats “Cover Me” (Locked On)
09 TLC “No Scrubs (Todd Edwards Remix)” (I Records)
10 Jamie Lidell “Another Day (Rustie Remix)” (Warp)
11 Wiley “Freeze” (white)
12 Untold “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine” (unreleased)
13 Mark One “The Greatest” (Boka)
14 Geiom & Spamchop “Cave Rave” (Berkane Sol)
15 Brackles “Rawkus” (Planet Mu)
16 D1 “Crack Bong” (Tempa)
17 SBTRKT “Loving You” (Planet Mu)

Sunless Records Compilation

Sunless Records have a free compilation for you to download over on their website. It features their artists Bnjmin, 141, Singing Statues, Rewolf and Jackhigh. I say all this but Sunless Records is one guy, and he’s also all of those artists too. So there’s alot of variety on this compilation and it’s all coming from one person? Amazing.

Nmbrs: 29 Minutes of Guido

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on June 29, 2009 by REAL BAD

Nmbrs podcast #19 is a 29 minute mix by Bristol’s Guido. Rolling with Joker and Gemmy and producing nothing but the freshest “p-funk” (or whatever else The Guardian are calling it) sound, Guido is breaking age old conventions of dubstep and trying to turn it from the established sausage fest into something a little… sexier.

Jackmaster mix for The Wire

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 21, 2009 by REAL BAD

Jackmaster has posted a mix that he made for The Wire magazine over at his label’s website,

“I just dun did a new DJ mix for peoples over at The Wire magazine. It features a bunch of Wireblock exclusives to be released later this year and a wealth of other face melters. Some of it is out of key and the levels are a bit fucked but at least it’s real.”

Great to hear forthcoming Wireblock tracks in the mix alongside heavy-hitters from Joker, Dorian Concept, Débruit and Guido.

Video – Ramadanman – Humber

Apple Pips Recordings out of Bristol present the video for Ramadanman’s “Humber”.

I love this track. It’s house, it’s dubstep, it’s detroit-techno and most importantly it’s here just in time for the summer. The video is pretty nice too, made by the excellently-named Vector Meldrew.
