Kicking things off is another interview/mix over on Blackdown’s blog from Bristol’s Kowton. He gives us a really strong mix including tracks from Guido, Pearson Sound and STL, and a really great (and lengthy) interview. Watch out for more from Kowton over the coming months – and here’s hoping that I can find somewhere to get hold of his track ‘Stasis’. KOWTON

Ahead of the release of Hudson Mohawke’s debut album ‘Butter‘, Wireblock are offering up two free tracks from Hudson’s first release ‘Oops!’. The title track from this release has reached anthemic proportions, and if you don’t have it yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? For those of you that like your music a bit more tangible, Rubadub have a limited re-press of the vinyl in stock now.

Everybody’s new favourite band The XX are taking the internet by storm and selling out live venues everywhere they go. And rightly so – their melancholic surfer rock has created one of my favourite albums of 2009. But recently I’ve started hearing a slightly different side to them which is very exciting. Starting with Jamie’s (MPC/drums/production) mix for FACT, the band’s interest in dubstep, garage and-all-that became apparent. On the B-side of their forthcoming single is a cover of Kyla’s UK Funky smash ‘Do You Mind’ and last week a remix by The XX of Florence & The Machine’s cover of ‘You’ve Got The Love’ (confusing) surfaced. The track kicks off with lush harps and vocals by The XX but by the 2 minute mark it’s morphed into a hazy, sentimental UKF re-work of the Florence version. MAGICAL STUFF

And as a quick sign-off, head on over to The Quietus to read an interview by Oli Marlow (of Sonic Router) with one of my favourite artists of 2009, James Blake. Oh, and be sure to get your hands on his debut single ‘Air & Lack Thereof’ because its nothing short of astounding

inabit.
