Wireblock + Dress 2 Sweat + Stuff = NUMBERS

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , on October 15, 2009 by REAL BAD

It’s great to be able to post about actual music news once in a while, as opposed to just posting links to mixes that I think are good.

I’ll let the guys over at Numbers explain it through their brilliant website, but be sure this is a great move for these guys. in 2010 Numbers will be holding it down stronger than they ever have before. Exciting times.

OH

and there’s a mix to go along with it too, a sort of Dress 2 Sweat retrospective. Their final release from L-Vis and Bok-Bok is a killer too.

Be sure to catch the (re)launch parties in Glasgow and London. Especially the one in London. Dorian Concept is not to be missed.

Kowton / Oops! / The XX / James Blake

Kicking things off is another interview/mix over on Blackdown’s blog from Bristol’s Kowton. He gives us a really strong mix including tracks from Guido, Pearson Sound and STL, and a really great (and lengthy) interview. Watch out for more from Kowton over the coming months – and here’s hoping that I can find somewhere to get hold of his track ‘Stasis’. KOWTON

Ahead of the release of Hudson Mohawke’s debut album ‘Butter‘, Wireblock are offering up two free tracks from Hudson’s first release ‘Oops!’. The title track from this release has reached anthemic proportions, and if you don’t have it yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? For those of you that like your music a bit more tangible, Rubadub have a limited re-press of the vinyl in stock now.

Everybody’s new favourite band The XX are taking the internet by storm and selling out live venues everywhere they go. And rightly so – their melancholic surfer rock has created one of my favourite albums of 2009. But recently I’ve started hearing a slightly different side to them which is very exciting. Starting with Jamie’s (MPC/drums/production) mix for FACT, the band’s interest in dubstep, garage and-all-that became apparent. On the B-side of their forthcoming single is a cover of Kyla’s UK Funky smash ‘Do You Mind’ and last week a remix by The XX of Florence & The Machine’s cover of ‘You’ve Got The Love’ (confusing) surfaced. The track kicks off with lush harps and vocals by The XX but by the 2 minute mark it’s morphed into a hazy, sentimental UKF re-work of the Florence version. MAGICAL STUFF

And as a quick sign-off, head on over to The Quietus to read an interview by Oli Marlow (of Sonic Router) with one of my favourite artists of 2009, James Blake. Oh, and be sure to get your hands on his debut single ‘Air & Lack Thereof’ because its nothing short of astounding

inabit.

Hudson Mohawke ‘Butter’ Mix and Artwork

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , on September 3, 2009 by REAL BAD

I’ve been so lazy recently with posting on here. I’ve got a massive backlog of stuff that I want to post, mainly mixes, but they can wait…

Warp have released the artwork for Hudon Mohawke’s forthcoming album ‘Butter’ and its… well… intense. I think I love it. I’m just not sure.

Anyway, to back it up Warp and Hudson have posted a mini mix of the album over on their site. You can listen to it here.

Also, the strongest part of the album artwork, the logo, is making its way onto the T-Shirt that comes with the ‘spreadable edition’. I’ll definitely be grabbing one of these now.

Hudson Mohawke Interview @ Bleep.com

In anticipation of the release of his new album, Bleep.com have posted a great interview with Hudson Mohawke. Check it out. And while you’re at it head over to their site to order the ‘Spreadable Edition’ complete with T-shirt, sticker, CD and butter tub. It looks like the page should have audio previews of all the tracks but they don’t seem to be working for me.

Hudson Mohawke / Butter / Rising 5

Been waiting a long time to spring this one, and seeing as Fact and Fader have been given the go ahead, I figure I’m alowed to too.

Hudson Mohawke’s new album is called ‘Butter’ and will be released October 12. Here’s a tracklisting

1. Shower Melody

2. Gluetooth

3. Joy Fantastic ft. Daysoul

4. 3.30

5. Trykk

6. Fruit Touch

7. ZOo00OOm

8. Acoustic Lady

9. Rising 5

10. Twistclip Loop

11. Just Decided ft. Oliver Daysoul

Having heard the album plenty of times now, I can honestly say it’s one of the freshest collections of tracks that I’ve ever come across. There’s so much going on in every track and it’s all done with a sense of humour and incredible ability.

My favourite track by far is ‘Rising 5’ and Fader magazine have just got and posted it on their blog

So

ENJOY

Ethereal mix from Brainfeeder’s Ras G. If it wasn’t so HOT right now I’d recommend listening to this in the bath. Instead, it might just take your mind off the fact that the office you’re working in has no air conditioning.

Oh, and this is the tracklisting, as written by Ras G

“GB, Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Kutmah, Matthew David,Smegma,Mono/Poly,Misel Quitno,Peter B,Professor Cantloupe, La Voz Sabia De Los Cosmos,

Warp Records have a new website, and it’s pretty impressive if you ask me. Then again, I’m a little biased towards this one. CHECKITOUT!
