5 Mixes: Starkey / dÉbruit / Alex B / Harmonic 313 / Greena

1: Starkey mix for FACT

I wasn’t a fan of Starkey’s ‘Gutter Music’ album, although I hear his sophmore offering is a lot better. I wasn’t too sure about listening to this mix for FACT but I was happily surprised. Lots of heavy hitting tracks here and a really lush remix of Bon Iver to round things off.

2. dÉbruit mix for FACT

I reckon I’ll just stop doing this blog and just post a link to the new FACT mix each week. French synth-funkster dÉbruit drops a dirty, soulful set that slides gracefully from Kurtis Blow through to Dorian Concept.

3. Alex B mix for Brainfeeder

Kings of left-field instrumental hip-hop (can’t we just call it wonky?) Brainfeeder post up their latest podcast mixed by Alex B. I have no idea who he is, but he seems to have been doing alright for himself without any notice from me. Loads of great tracks from himself alongside Viktor Vaughn, AFTA-1 and Dibia$e.

4. Harmonic 313 on Viral Radio

It’s not really a mix, but Mark Ptichard (AKA Harmonic 313) drops by Viral Radio to play some new tracks from himself and Africa Hi-Tech (Harmonic313 + Steve Spacek) and to talk a little about his music.

5: Greena mix for Ballers 5ocial Club

I’ve done almost none of the work that I was meant to do today so… Here’s a link to Greena’s mix for Glasgow’s ‘Ballers 5ocial Club’ over at Sonic Router. Lots of good stuff in here from Joy Orbison, L-Vis 1990, Martin Kemp etc.

Harmonic 313 – Battlestar Video

BattlestarBATTLESTAR VIDEO

(because I can’t embed it)

Warp posted the video for Harmonic 313’s ‘Battlestar’ today. It’s actually the remix of the album version, but it still features eLZhi and Phat Kat and it still bangs. The vocoder under the chorus vocals is robo-madness perfection. The single featuring the remix, album version and instrumentals can be yours on 15th June.

The video was filmed using a stereoscopic camera and it flicks between each ‘eye’ every frame, so if you’re even slightly worried about epilepsy you probably shouldn’t go anywhere near it. Sixty40 have done a really good job with it, and in the process have managed to cover up some pretty uninspired dancing.

Warp Records have a new website, and it’s pretty impressive if you ask me. Then again, I’m a little biased towards this one. CHECKITOUT!
